FOSCAL

The Ophthalmology Foundation of Santander started in 1976 on the 11th floor of the Ramon Gonzalez Valencia University Hospital. Later, in 1979 it was moved to an old house where an excellent group of professionals and paramedicals committed to the philosophy of “Helping Others to See” provided ophthalmological attention for over two years, beginning a long standing tradition of community service.

The experience and satisfaction with the success of this new institution made doctor Virgilio Galvis Ramirez visualize a great project that, besides being a qualified practice, would develop a social strategy focused on health. Fifteen months later, on July 27,1982, the 5,800 square meter modern building of the Ophthalmology Foundation of Santander became a reality.

The need arose to complement the ophthalmology services with other medical specialties in order to address the health of the wider northeast population of Colombia, leading to the creation of the Carlos Ardila Lulle Clinic and Medical Center. This complex offers large functional areas, surgery rooms, an emergency department, intensive care units, an outpatient surgery department, hospitalization services, a heliport and all the other necessary support services to make it the greatest medical care complex of the region. Its extensive infrastructure has 45,000 square meters distributed over 4 towers with a capacity of 200 hospital beds and a medical group of 200 specialists committed to scientific research and excellent attention for patients coming from all over the country, particularly Santander, Arauca, Cesar, Sucre and Antioquia.

With advanced technology, an excellent professional group that's always willing to help, the FOSCAL is a high level institution that provides health care with quality and warmth.

The FOSCAL is an institution in constant development, soon we will have new outpatient offices and a new intelligent 10 floor tower that will raise the hospital capacity to 400 beds, double the size of the cancer center and create new spaces for academia and research.
